EEGR6118 Images and image viewers/tools

Viewers:

The gif images should be viewable on your web-browser by simpling clicking the image file links. The ".img" files are readable by the older pcore software or the imgPro4 software.

Image viewers (other than your browser):
  • Just use your web browser
  • ImgPro4:
A MSwindows/VisC++ based program (ImgPro4.exe) that can read, convert, Fourier, and display ".img" and ".bmp" files is here: imgp4.zip. Just drop imgp4.zip into your image directory, unzip, and run.
  • Mathcad:
Mathcad may also be used to open, display, and process image files. A mathcad demo on opening image files is here: zipped Mathcad demo file (reads images and Fourier)
    pdf printout of Mathcad demo

  • Image files:

Some files must first be viewed in your browser (some are links to external web-pages). All ".img" images are 256x256 pixel 8-bit flat binary files with no headers, and can be read by ImgPro4 and converted to ".bmp" files. You may right-click the image when it appears in your browser to save the file; some files may be directly downloaded by holding down the shift, alt, or ctrl key while clicking on the links below.

Some of the ".tiff" format files below may be converted to ".gif" or other convenient programs by using tools such as a "paint" tool or IrfanView.

We will use many standard test images from a variety of sources, mostly from the USC-SIPI Image Database and Waterloo Repertoire and National Institutes of Health and Carnegie Mellon Computer Vision test Images and some locally generated images. Some textures are small excerpts from P. Brodatz, "Textures: A Photographic Album for Artists and Designers," New York, NY: Dover, 1966. Other sources of interes include MIT media lab vistex and Carnegie Mellon Texture Database and Rutgers Skin Texture Database and Stavanger Texture Database and AMOVIP-DB Database and LBNL Image Library  and Federation of American Scientists IMINTImage Intelligence Gallery and Terraserver and homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/HIPR2/ and BioImage and Biometric Database
