EEGR4124 Lab Introduction

The programs and projects in the course are primarily designed to run on the PC's, but should run on any system supporting Java and NetBeans.

In this first lab, the main objective is to make sure that you can access the course materials and perform the basic steps needed in the projects. Do the following tasks during this first lab.

Complete the following tasks

  • The audio files are here: Audio files for use in projects.
  • WARNING: if you decide to download NetBeans to your home computer, make sure that you get the same version as being used on campus.
  • If you are unfamiliar with Java and NetBeans, see the links to Java/Netbeans tutorials near the end of the DSP for Java/Netbeans Tutorial .
  • Read and complete the instructions on running NetBeans and loading the DSPsoundv55a interface as described in the DSP for Java/Netbeans Tutorial
  • Read the sin3264 audio file (press "Read1")
  • You should see the waveform
  • Play the waveform (once)
  • Headphones may be required, or try this at home
  • Save the display to out.png (Write png button)
  • Open and view the out.png file using some other tool
  • Complete the remainder of the DSP for Java/Netbeans Tutorial .
  • Complete this second simple Java tutorial (based on the Java questions in the 2007 midterm) SimpleJavaTutorial.html
